Welcome to the First Grade! It is my pleasure to welcome your child to my classroom for a wonderful year of learning. It will be an incredible year filled with exciting adventures, laughter, and many new experiences!

Our classroom is based on kindness, inclusion and respect. I strive to provide a learning environment where students are active participants in their learning and feel safe and confident to be themselves while engaging in new learning experiences. We will regularly discuss these values to help us maintain a positive and fun learning environment! As a teacher, I hope to encourage students to feel proud, capable, and to take ownership of their learning.

I look forward to working with you all as we begin to build a collaborative community to ensure we have a fantastic year!

I will be utilizing Google Classroom to share links and resources for your child's learning. This year we will be using Power School regularly to update students and parents on learning progress. More information on this will be shared as we move forward.

I use a free app called Classdojo where I post important information, pictures of things we are doing in class, and I can send an easy direct message regarding anything specific to you or your child. If you would like to sign up and join our class on the app please feel free to contact me! Below is a link to the desktop version of Classdojo. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns by writing a note in your child's agenda or by emailing me at lduss@rockyview.ab.ca

Parent Tips

A family atmosphere prevails at our school with the education of your child being a shared responsibility.  We encourage your interest in what your child does each day and welcome your involvement in the classroom, school council and at home.

  1. Please remind your child to practice their home reading on a regular basis.
  2. Please remind your child to practice their counting and number recognition.
  3. Please initial your child's agenda daily.
  4. Sight words are a necessary part of literacy. Help your child become a better reader by practicing their sight words and encourage them to use them when writing sentences.
  5. Check out the Learn Alberta website for learning activities to do at home.
