Merrill Foster

Hi All!  My name is Merrill Foster, and I have been teaching for over 25 years in Rockyview Schools. I really must be older than even I think!!  I am excited to be teaching grade 4 here at Heloise Lorimer School.  I'm so looking forward to coming together with my new classroom family.  As Henry Ford said, “Coming together is a beginning, keeping together is progress; working together is success”.  I have taught grades 1 – 4 at different times in my career, and continue to love those “aha!” moments that happen more often than you might think in a classroom.  As a parent of 2 children myself, I am honoured to be entrusted with the care of 26 very special members of your family.

Looking forward to working with your child this year, and getting to know their home families as well.

Welcome to all.

Our Class Mission

I believe that learning should be fun and exciting, yet challenging.  I strive
to create a classroom environment where all learners have the opportunity to
work to their fullest potential; a classroom where students feel safe to show
their unique qualities and individual strengths.  I encourage my students to
be problem solvers and try to motivate them to become lifelong learners.  I
understand that education is a partnership between students, parents, school, and
community.  Communication is the key to your child's success.  Together we can
make school both challenging and enjoyable

Parent Tips

A family atmosphere prevails at our school with the education of your child being a shared responsibility.  We encourage your interest in what your child does each day and welcome your involvement in the classroom, school council and at home. Times being as they are, visitors aren't permitted in the school at this time, but I am always available for a phone call or Zoom meet up.

Please remind your child to practice their reading on a regular basis at home.  They are always welcome to borrow books from our classroom library to read at home. Please encourage them to bring these books back as soon as they are finished, to ensure there are plenty of books for others, as well as for our daily independent reading periods.

Please have your child go on our digital levelled reading program Raz Kids and share their reading with you.

Our online library Book Flicks is available to all families, we encourage you to use this on a regular basis.

Check out the Learn Alberta website, as well as those listed on the Home Practice link on my site, for learning activities at home.
